Personal Introduction

I, Dr. Anju Singh, am honored to announce my candidacy for State Representative in PA District 106. I am a single mother, a legal immigrant, a small business owner, a tutor, a professor, and, most importantly, a tax-paying constituent just like you. Each of these roles has shaped my understanding of the challenges we face and deepened my appreciation for this community.

As a single mother, I know firsthand the balancing act that families perform every day. As an immigrant, I am proud of the opportunities this country has provided and am committed to ensuring those opportunities remain accessible for everyone. Running a small business has taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs. Through my work as a tutor and professor, I’ve witnessed the power of education to transform lives and strengthen our district.

Community Challenges

In recent years, we’ve all felt the impact of rising costs—property taxes are climbing, groceries are more expensive, gas prices are unpredictable, and utility bills keep growing. Meanwhile, minimum wage remains stagnant, making it harder for families to keep up, let alone get ahead. These challenges affect us all, regardless of background, party affiliation, religion, gender, or such other circumstances.

Critique of Current Leadership

Too often, our elected officials seem to prioritize their own interests and the interests of large corporations over the needs of the people they represent. This isn’t just disappointing—it’s unacceptable. Our district deserves leaders who put constituents first, who listen, and who act with integrity and transparency.

Money, Influence, and Public Trust

When powerful corporations and wealthy interests pour money into politics, ordinary residents can reasonably wonder whose calls will be returned and whose concerns will shape public policy. Pennsylvania requires candidates and political committees to disclose contributions and spending, but disclosure alone does not erase the risk that access and influence will follow the biggest checks. I believe public office is a public trust—not a service sold to the highest bidder.

I will support stronger transparency, and firm ethics rules. I will refuse to let any donor—corporate, organizational, or individual—purchase special access or dictate my vote.

Responsible Data-Center Development

We must also confront the rapid spread of large data centers near our neighborhoods. These facilities may bring investment and construction work, but poorly planned projects can strain the electric grid and water supply, increase air pollution and noise, alter community character, and shift infrastructure costs onto families and small businesses. Residents should not learn about a massive proposal only after the major decisions have already been made.

I support responsible development with enforceable safeguards: early public notice, open hearings, independent studies of energy, water, traffic, noise, and environmental impacts, appropriate setbacks from homes and schools, emergency planning, and binding community-benefit agreements. Developers—not ratepayers—should cover the infrastructure their projects require, conserve water, reduce noise and emissions, and provide lasting local benefits rather than short-term promises.

Three Mile Island Emergency Preparedness

With the proposed restart of the facility formerly known as Three Mile Island, our community needs more than assurances—we need a feasible, publicly understood, and regularly tested emergency evacuation plan before operations resume. That plan must identify clear evacuation routes and backup routes, account for traffic bottlenecks, provide accessible transportation for seniors, people with disabilities, residents without vehicles, schoolchildren, hospital patients, and nursing-home residents, and establish reliable multilingual alerts, reception centers, sheltering guidance, family-reunification procedures, and plans for pets and livestock. State, county, municipal, federal, and plant officials should conduct full-scale drills, publish the results, correct any weaknesses, and prove that the plan can work under real-world conditions.

Commitment to Moderation and Community Unity

I recognize the growing political divide in our state and our nation. As a moderate candidate, I am committed to building bridges, fostering respectful dialogue, and working across the aisle to find real solutions. My focus will always be on the health, welfare, and safety of our community. I believe we can come together, despite our differences, to create a district that is strong, united, and thriving.

Action Plan

If elected, I will make it my mission to actively listen to your concerns, collaborate with residents, local officials, workers, and responsible businesses, and fight for policies that make a positive difference in your lives. I will work for transparent campaign finance and ethics rules, insist that major data-center proposals face meaningful public review, protect our resources, and pay their own way, and demand a feasible, publicly tested evacuation plan for the Three Mile Island site before any restart. I will work tirelessly to ensure that your voices are heard in Harrisburg, and that our community gets the resources and respect it deserves.
